Veronica Guerin [Featured Musician]

Early in 2002 myself and Todd Montgomery (Irish bazouki, mandolin)  got together and arranged some traditional Irish tunes in a more contemporary fashion. By the time we had a dozen or so tunes under our belt I called bass player Hutch Hutchinson (Bonnie Raitt, The Chieftains, CSR) and drummer Jay Bellerose (Beck, T-Bone Burnett, Robert Plant) to sit in on some gigs at a local coffee house in Topanga Canyon. They were very impromptu gigs and after performing a few times and having a blast I thought no more of it.

A few weeks later I get a phone call from someone at the coffee shop gig enquiring if we could use the band for a recording session for an upcoming Irish film.  I had recorded mostly for singer/songwriters up until this point so the thought of a recording session with live musicians, orchestra, and charts to read made me nervous, especially as we were to record live at Hans Zimmer's studio.

Day of the session we set up and started into the cues. The only thing going through my head was that I not be the first to screw up. Fortunately, I didn't, and was called back the next day for overdubs. One of my favorite sessions to date.
